Byrne asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his attention has been drawn to the paper entitled Family Income Support in Ireland-50 Years On, presented to the recent conference in Dublin Castle, which ranked Ireland in the bottom five of 18 countries surveyed in regard to our child benefit package; in view of this and of the report from the Combat Poverty Agency entitled The Cost of a Child, the plans, if any, he has to improve the level of child support payments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
