Deputy Ken O'Flynn asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade the reasons for the closure in 2012 of Ireland's Institute for Trade and Investment in Taipei; if the Department has assessed the case for reopening a trade and cultural office in Taipei, given the recovery in the Irish economy, continued growth in Taiwan's economy, and an estimated 600 or more Irish citizens now resident in Taiwan; the Department's understanding of the current scale of Irish-Taiwanese trade; if consideration has been given to the fact that some 15 other EU member states, including Germany through the German Institute Taipei, maintain dedicated trade or representative offices in Taipei, in addition to the European Union's own European Economic and Trade Office; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
