Deputy Willie O'Dea asked the Minister for Education and Youth if she is aware that the NCSE has refused to fund the final teaching practice component of a Master of Qualification (MQ) in Deaf Education, even though colleagues in similar roles have previously received NCSE support to complete this qualification; if she will intervene to ensure that these teachers can complete their qualification and therefore prevent the waste of Department funding already allocated to these students and correct a decision which is inconsistent with the NCSE’s own policy and research, which emphasise the importance of specialist qualifications for teachers of deaf students; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
