Deputy Ken O'Flynn asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science given the Programme for Government commits to phasing out the student contribution fee over the lifetime of this Dáil, and Budget 2026 delivered a permanent €500 reduction but due to it replacing the previous temporary €1,000 cut, students are actually paying €500 more this year than last year, if he will set out a clear, costed timeline for meeting the Programme for Government commitment to progressively reduce and ultimately abolish the student contribution fee; and to confirm that no future Budget will again leave students worse off than the year before.
