Ryan asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the number of claimants of the deserted wife’s benefit either pre or post 1992 who are transferred from deserted wife’s benefit to the one parent family payment to facilitate at the time an eligibility to participation in community employment or job initiative schemes; her views on whether the claimants of deserted wife’s benefit should always have been entitled to the higher rate of deserted wife’s benefit payments during this period; if so, the way in which she proposes to rectify this situation with a view to assessing their claims for possible retrospective payments; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
