PQ 170

170. Deputy Tony McLoughlin asked the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation regarding the current taxi meter verification process, which is currently overseen by the National Standards Authority of Ireland and which is subcontracted to companies such as Applus+, if he will consider introducing a new fairer system of retesting for these visual fails which will ensure there will be no need to conduct a full re-test when the listed fail is only a visual fail, and that the system will be replaced with one similar to the National Car Test, in which a visual fail does not require a full re-test, and any extra charges are levied to the owner; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
