Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Minister for Finance his plans to amend the tax credits legislation to cater for cohabiting couples who are unable to benefit from the tax credit arrangements afforded to married couples where the available tax free allowance gives at least an extra €4,000 in tax free allowances and where cohabiting couples are prevented from claiming this even when living together and supporting a family; his further plans to amend this situation to make the tax credits equal among all citizens; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
