271 Deputy Jan O’Sullivan asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for delays in making repayments under the scheme for repayments to those illegally charged for their stay in nursing homes; the reason in particular, that of the 70,000 persons estimated to be owed a refund and the 30,000 who have made applications, only 6,000 persons have received repayments; if she has satisfied herself with the operation of the scheme by the private sector consortium appointed for the purpose; if there are performance criteria included in the contract with that consortium by reference to which their fees can be reduced or penalty payments imposed; if not, the reason for same; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
