20. Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if, in the wake of the recently announced trade agreement between Canada, US and the European Union, adequate safeguards have been put in place to ensure that beef imports into Europe comply with the same standards as applicable throughout Europe in terms of traceability, husbandry and particularly that the places of origin are accurately recorded, and that the European beef industry does not become disadvantaged by subsequent agreements in the context of the WTO or otherwise; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
