PQ 21

273 Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the opinion of a number of eminent consultants and general practitioners that her recent proposal to defer the cervical cancer vaccination programme for 12 year olds is a retrograde step with serious health implications at a time when great emphasis is placed on early detection and prevention; that a combination of screening and vaccination is essential in a properly co-ordinated programme; that the proposed saving of €10 million is likely to be eroded by more expensive remedial measures in the future; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
