Deputy Pearse Doherty asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government in relation to current planning rules which allow for the exemption of small-scale domestic property extensions from acquiring planning permission prior to construction, if he will clarify if it is the case that this exemption does not extend to properties located within special areas of conservation, SAC; the options available to owners of such properties who are unaware of this, and who unknowingly proceed with a domestic extension without first obtaining planning permission; if the option of obtaining retention planning permission for such unauthorised developments is not available to owners of properties within an SAC; if he will consider amending existing legislation in order to allow for retention planning permission to be granted to property owners in such incidences; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
