212 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received full information regarding proposals to discontinue the respiratory and tuberculosis unit at Peamount Hospital, Newcastle, County Dublin; if his attention has been drawn to the negative impact such a step is likely to have on the immediate and wider catchment area; if he has examined the implications whereby patients suffering from acute forms of tuberculosis or respiratory illnesses may in future be referred to other general hospitals thereby causing a possible risk of infection for other patients; if he has investigated the circumstances surrounding the refusal of admission to such a patient and subsequent re-admission; if he will personally intervene to ensure the continuation of the services currently provided to tuberculosis and respiratory patients at the hospital in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
