Deputy Barry Cowen asked the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government if his Department or a body under its aegis, including local authorities, has undertaken surveys of vacant spaces above commercial properties in Dublin or Cork, which could be suitable for residential use; if so, the results of these surveys; and, if not, his views on whether a comprehensive survey should be undertaken to get a better grasp of building vacancy and potential residential vacancies above commercial properties in these cities.
