226 Deputy Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan asked the Minister for Health if he will examine the possibility of compelling manufacturers and importers of tobacco products to fulfil their duties under Article 6 Section 1 of the Tobacco Products Directive 2001/37/EC, transposed into Irish Law via the European Communities (Manufacture, Presentation and Sale of Tobacco Products) Regulations 2003 that is, submit the ingredients in each of their products by brand and type, via the Electronic Model Tobacco Control system, which is currently used in Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands; if he will instruct the National Tobacco Control Office to force the tobacco companies to do so; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
