Deputy Jennifer Whitmore asked the Minister for Education if she is aware that a school (details supplied) paid out over €173,000 in a period between 2016 and 2022 to remedy defects arising from the construction of a school by a company that has subsequently gone into liquidation; when the certified claim from the school for reimbursement of these monies will be concluded and the money remitted to the school; to outline, in view of the fact that that the claim was formally submitted to her Department in November 2023, her views on whether it is acceptable for her Department to leave such a significant sum owning to a voluntary secondary school for such a prolonged period out of funds retained by or on behalf of her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
