Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if the contract negotiated with general practitioners in respect of medical card holders includes a commitment to make arrangements for an out of hour service to patients which would avoid unnecessary resort by patients to accident and emergency services; if his Department has undertaken a study of the relationship between availability of night time calls from general practitioners and dependence on accident and emergency services; and if he has satisfied himself that reasonable incentives are in place to encourage general practitioners to provide out of hour services.
