Deputy Ken O'Flynn asked the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications the reason the ex-civil servants transferred from the Department of Posts and Telegraphs to An Post and to Bord Telecom Éireann in January 1984 appear to have different security attached to their pensions, namely, the Eircom no. 2 fund is funded by the Minister for Finance with an obvious guarantee under the pay-as-you-go system whilst the An Post scheme has a pension fund with no State guarantee and is dependent on the company's level of contribution to it plus returns from investments, and is, therefore, less secure than the special Eircom scheme for the ex-civil servants notwithstanding s46 of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act 1983; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
