30. Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the extent to which he and his Department have studied the adequacy of the electricity generating capacity from non-fossil sources to meet this country’s requirements over the next ten to 12 years in the event of a 3.5% economic growth rate over the same period facilitating increased employment and investment; the extent to which it is expected to achieve self-sufficiency and reduce dependency on imports in this regard at the same time; if it is expected to retain sufficient surplus to requirements throughout the same period to protect against blackouts; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
