Durkan asked the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources if consideration has been given to the reintroduction of sugar beet growing for bio-fuel purposes following the Copenhagen conference; if he will set out the extent to which it is expected that Ireland did or the EU will rely on sugar beet production for this purpose in the future; if EU assistance is available for the purpose in the context of the Common Agriculture Policy review or otherwise; if he has made or received any submissions along these lines; the likelihood of positive developments in this area in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
