33 Deputy Charles Flanagan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if, in relation to an application for an Irish passport, (details supplied), having regard to the fact that this applicant, being an Irish citizen, is unable to submit details of their birth certificate to support their passport application, the affidavit submitted in support of the information submitted with the application will facilitate the progression of matters, notwithstanding the fact that the submission of such affidavit is not intended to replace or substitute the submission of primary items of evidence, such as would be the case in respect of a birth certificate; if having regard to appropriate and exhaustive searches having been made to locate a birth certificate, he will accept the affidavit; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
