Deputy James O'Connor asked the Minister for Transport the position regarding the powers available to gardaí to seize vehicles which produce excessive noise due to a modified exhaust silencers, under SI 190/1963 - Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963; if he will confirm that gardaí currently have sufficient powers, means and resources to conduct a roadside inspection of vehicles producing excessive noise and to test or read a suspect device or modified exhaust silencer before possible seizure of the vehicle where appropriate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
