Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if, in advance of the establishment of the housing assistance payment scheme, his attention has been drawn to the facts that there has been a large reduction in the number of family homes available within the current rental system for which rent supplement is accepted, that as poverty increases, more and more families become dependent on State support to maintain a family home, and that, as the cost of available properties rises, an increasing number of families are becoming homeless; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
