Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Finance in view of the fact that Allied Irish Bank have received more than €20 billion from the State and in effect is owned by the people and now the bank has increased its mortgage rates not once, but twice in recent times, and 70,000 AIB variable rate customers must pay a further 0.5 percent on their mortgages, if he will intervene in view of the fact that one tenth of AIB mortgage customers are already 90 days or more behind on their repayments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
