Deputy Paul Murphy asked the Minister for Social Protection if her attention has been drawn to the increasing number of older persons falling into poverty as a direct result of the cost of living increases; if her attention has been further drawn to the fact the value of the €5 increase agreed for the State pension in Budget 2022 has already essentially been wiped out with the rise in carbon taxes, fuel costs and cost of living; if she will commit to a secured annual increase in the State pension to address the increasing cost of living for those in receipt of the pension given that almost 70% of persons reliant on the State pension did not qualify for the extension of the fuel allowance; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
