Deputy Ken O'Flynn asked the Minister for Education and Youth whether schools are required to formally notify her Department when a child is removed from, or ceases attending, mainstream primary or post-primary school due to the fact the school has stated it cannot meet the child’s additional or special educational needs, including autism, ADHD or related conditions; whether such notifications are currently made in cases where children are placed on reduced timetables, partial attendance, or other informal exclusionary arrangements; the role special educational needs organisers play in ensuring that such children continue to have access to education; and the steps her Department will take to ensure that schools are accountable for reporting these cases and that no child is effectively excluded from education without oversight.
