Deputy John Lahart asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if his attention has been drawn to an anomaly that exists whereby a motor vehicle that has not been in use for a number of months cannot be declared officially off the road until motor tax arrears are paid in view of the fact that arrears cannot be paid unless the vehicle has a valid motor insurance certificate thus forcing the owner take out an insurance policy on a vehicle which is not intended for use; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
