Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl asked the Minister for Defence with regard to the Interception of Postal Packets and Telecommunications Messages (Regulation) Act 1993 and section 6(1) thereof, the number of applications for authorising an interception in the interests of the security of the State that have been made by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces since 9 March 2011; if any such applications have been accompanied by a recommendation in writing by him supporting the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
