57 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the fact that thousands of elderly people living in rural areas who have availed of the socially monitored alarm scheme operated by his Department are being asked to pay €65 plus VAT in order to have their personal alarms reprogrammed as a result of a decision to change the prefix for telephone numbers in certain parts of the country; if his Department plans to cover the cost of this reprogramming or if he will request commercial companies to have the charge reduced or dropped; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
