Deputy Marc MacSharry asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the reason a person who received illness benefit payments as a result of a personal injury is still liable for tax on the said payments received in circumstances in which compensation was subsequently awarded and the compensator has paid an amount equal to the illness benefit payments made to the person concerned directly to them, which is taken off the compensation award; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
