Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection if her attention has been drawn to the extent of hardship and suffering caused in respect of a family (details supplied) in County Kildare who cannot qualify for child benefit due to the fact that their child’s special educational needs have been disrupted, through no fault of their own; if it is recognised that, for a period of almost a year, the family received no support whatsoever, and that their current situation continues to be precarious due to a lack of adequate support, based on the status of their accommodation situation and the residency status of their adult daughter; if immediate steps will be taken to address their particular situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
