Deputy Pearse Doherty asked the Minister for Finance further to Parliamentary Question No. 176 of 30 April 2013, in which he said that the Revenue Commissioners could not estimate the amount that would be raised if CGT was applied to the sale of principal residences because it is not a current policy, the reason an estimate cannot be made by his Department in view of the wealth of knowledge that has been accumulated by his Department in relation to house transactions in preparation for the local property tax; his views on whether it is acceptable that his Department cannot make estimates of revenue that could be raised or saved as a result of a new policy; and if he considers this an impediment to formulating new policies at budget time.
