Deputy Sean Fleming asked the Minister for Social Protection if he will reverse the changes to the contributory old age pension system whereby persons who have a very large number of paid contributions for their pension but their yearly average is less than the full amount because they had started work before they had taken up the position of homemaker and left the paid workforce for a period and are now being penalised by not being allowed the full pension compared with persons who have a much less number of reckonable or paid contributions to their pension but did not start work as early in their lifetime and they are now eligible for a higher contributory pension; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
