PQ 745

745. Deputy Dara Calleary asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will explain the rationale behind his decision to centralise the taking of driving licence photographs from September 2013; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that pharmacies and other retailers are already supplying photographs to the biometric standard for many years; if he will explain the tendering process used by the Road Safety Authority before awarding the contact; if he will reconsider this decision in view of the many jobs that it places at risk existing businesses that supply these photographs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
