823 Deputy Billy Kelleher asked the Minister for Health, on the issue of the Health Service Executives refusal to allow umbilical cord blood collection, if he stated on 28 June 2011 that the HSE should correct this anomaly that has not allowed the banking of cord blood cells in cases in which patients are anxious for this to happen and are prepared to fund the cost so that no additional cost is borne by the taxpayer; if he will explain the reason he has not acted on his own recommendation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
