Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the fact that some economic analysts have concluded that Ireland can no longer compete for jobs in the manufacturing sector, and that this can be a prelude to conceding ability to compete in the service areas also; if she has taken steps or proposes to take action to make efforts to restore competitiveness in both sectors at an early date; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
