Deputy Barry Ward asked the Minister for Transport If his attention has been drawn to the actions of the French government which has introduced a specific penalty of €100 per tonne for non-compliance with CORSIA offsetting obligations together with the possibility of an operating ban; whether the Government will introduce an equivalent national penalty for non-compliance with CORSIA that is consistent with the excess emissions penalty applicable under the EU ETS, in order to ensure that Irish airlines operate on a level playing field with competitors in other Member States and to support the integrity of multilateral climate action.
