PQ 96
96. Deputy Róisín Shortall asked the Minister for Social Protection the discussions, if any, she has had with the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to align the State pension age with the typical ages that workers are required to retire from their employment because of long standing contractual arrangements; her plans, if any, arising from these discussions; and the plans, if any, she has to address the anomaly whereby potentially thousands of workers will be required by their contract to retire from their employment in 2014 once they reach 65 years but will not be entitled to a State pension, will have to sign on the live register to access income support and in some cases will potentially have no income support for three months of next year because of recent changes to the duration of jobseeker's benefit.
