111 Deputy James Reilly asked the Minister for Health and Children if, regarding the current controversy on cancer services at Portlaoise Hospital, the radiologist and pathologist concerned were on the register of medical specialists; if they were did they get onto the register by completing higher specialist training in the relevant field here or were they approved on recognition of their training being equivalent; if so the mechanisms in place to ensure that these doctors placed on the specialist register are actually capable of working as a competent specialist; the assessment they undergo; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
