PQ 99

94 Deputy Ciara Conway asked the Minister for Social Protection if she will examine the block exemption for modified rate contributors in view of the fact that these workers pay PRSI on earnings derived from their civil or public service employment but do not pay PRSI on any other stream of income; if she will consider abolishing or changing this exemption in light of the fact that removing the exemption on unearned income of all workers and on other income streams of those employed in the civil and public service recruited prior to 6 April 1995 will yield a total of €74 million additional PRSI in a full year; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
