That this House notes the recent efforts to commercialise Terminator Technology, a genetic use restriction technology, which is designed to prevent through genetic modification farm-saved seeds from germinating; further notes the recent granting of a Terminator patent in Europe; is concerned that this technology will force farmers to purchase new seed each season, thus increasing corporate control of the food supply and threatening the food security of people in developing countries; is not convinced that this technology will prevent GM contamination of non-GM crops, food and feed supplies; is further concerned that this technology may present a threat, especially to farmers' and indigenous peoples' livelihoods, health and biodiversity; and urges the UK Government to follow the precautionary principle and therefore continue to defend, in upcoming meetings of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity and elsewhere in 2006, the existing decision that products incorporating Genetic Use Restriction Technologies should not be approved for field testing and commercialisation.

after 'the', insert 'Cornish,'.
United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 13 December 2000
That this House commends the Government for devolving power to places people identify with; further congratulates those regions in the North East, North West, Cornwall and the South West which have set up constitutional conventions and the regions of Yorkshire and West Midlands for setting up campaigns; and calls on the Government to complete its unfinished business by setting up regional assemblies which reflect the places people identity with, have a clear popular mandate and are fully democratic.
United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 1 November 2000
That this House believes that the humble Cornish pasty is the product of a unique tradition of working men and women in Cornwall, that it is vital to the local economy, generating an estimated turnover of ú150 million, provides thousands of jobs, is an essential part of the Cornish character in the food market and that any pasty described as 'Cornish' in the European Market should actually me made in Cornwall; and therefore support its case for Protected Geographical Indication status.
United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 26 October 2000
That this House believes that it is no longer acceptable, under the existing council tax system, to spend ú168 million of taxpayers' money a year subsidising the wealthy to have second homes when there are many thousands of people who live in areas of high second home ownerships who do not even have a decent first home; and calls on the Government to bring forward proposals to deal with this anomaly in the forthcoming rural areas White Paper.
United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 10 May 2000
That this House notes that whilst second home owners enjoy a 50 per cent. council tax discount at an annual cost to the taxpayer of ú168 million, many thousands of disadvantaged permanent occupants of mobile homes pay a council tax for a property band up to four times their market value; considers that it is wrong that taxpayers should subsidise the better off to have their second homes whilst many thousands of local people cannot afford their first home; and believes that, in its forthcoming rural areas White Paper, the Government should at least abolish the discount for second homes and create a new council tax band for mobile home residents which more accurately reflects the true value of their property.
United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 9 May 2000
That this House welcomes the news of the report on policing in rural areas produced by ORH Limited; notes its conclusion that it takes a police officer in a rural area three times as long to reach the scene of a crime or incident as a police officer in an urban area; further acknowledges its conclusion that current standard spending assessment formulae do not take sufficient account of the challenges and additional costs of policing rurally isolated locations; notes that many honourable Members representing rural constituencies have consistently called for the Government's acceptance of this problem; and calls on the Government to act on the recommendations of its own report, to rectify this inequality and to implement the necessary changes to funding formulae for rural police forces with all possible speed.
United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 30 March 2000
That this House notes that £3.3 billion of taxpayers' money has been spent on the Jubilee Line extension to the London Underground; believes that public transport facilities should be accessible to all members of society; deplores the fact that, since its re-opening, the District, Circle and Jubilee line platforms at Westminster Underground Station have not been accessible to those disabled people travelling by public transport who wish to meet honourable Members and Ministers; and calls on the Government to ensure that the lifts at Westminster Underground Station are brought into service as a matter of urgency.
United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 7 March 2000
leave out from beginning to end of line 6 and add 'recognises that some regions do not coincide with the boundaries of central government defined regions which were designed for administrative convenience rather than to reflect regional identity; and welcomes efforts to enable regions to have devolved government appropriate to their needs, following the precedent of devolving power to places with regional identity and cultural and historic integrity, as was the case in Scotland and Wales.'.
United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 7 March 2000
That this House recognises that fishing has the worst industrial safety record in the United Kingdom, with proportionately more lives lost in the industry than in any other; further recognises that recent tragedies bring into sharp focus the need for more effective preventative measures including: a more thorough process of consultation between fishermen and the Maritime Coastguard Agency, the use of dynamic stability tests, full investigation into situations when hydrostatic release mechanisms have failed, challenging the culture of unacceptable risk-taking, where it occurs, using the Fisheries Protection Squadron to check and advise on the safety of vessels at sea, and the introduction of the compulsory wearing of lifejackets on single-handed vessels; and urges the Government to reintroduce fishing safety grants as a matter of urgency to support these and other measures.
United Kingdom · UK Parliament · 29 February 2000
That this House notes with concern the displacement of some indigenous and other local peoples from their lands in Africa and that this has also occurred in some locations of UK Government and NGO-funded conservation initiatives; further notes that mining, tourism, poaching, hunting and some commercial farming practices pose a greater threat to wildlife and environment than do the local populations of these areas; supports the rights and needs of local populations such as those of the Masai people in Tanzania and Kenya; and recognises that for conservation to be successful, local populations must be fully involved in its planning and implementation and must have the opportunity of a share in the financial and other benefits which result.
