Summary

That this House notes the call by the Home Secretary to create a United Kingdom football team; notes the universal condemnation by the Tartan Army, Scottish Football Association and the Scottish National Party; also notes that the hard-won reputation of the Tartan Army as international ambassadors of Scotland would be jeopardised by this proposal; further notes the admission by the former Sports Minister, the honourable Member for West Ham, that when he made the same proposal some years ago he was immediately contacted by Alistair Campbell and told it was costing Labour votes in Scotland; and regrets that this Government is undermining Scottish nationhood.
