Summary

That this House acknowledges the 100 year anniversary of the Pretoria Pit Disaster, the third largest coal mining disaster in British history, which saw the loss of 344 men and boys on 21 December 1910; offers condolence to the many families who still remember their relatives and their coal mining heritage with pride; and congratulates the people of Westhoughton and Atherton for their hard work over a number of years to ensure that the centenary is commemorated with the unveiling of a specially commissioned statue of a miner at work, the launch of a heritage trail and that the tragedy is remembered in the form of books written by the families and music produced by the Wingate Brass Band.
