Summary
That this House notes that more than 300 million tonnes of plastic are produced globally each year, the equivalent to the weight of the world’s entire population; further notes that more than 12 million tonnes of plastic end up in our seas and oceans; highlights the urgent need for more robust action to tackle plastic pollution; welcomes the campaign by activists in Crouch End to create a plastic-free community aimed at encouraging consumers, businesses and organisations to become plastic free and to eliminate avoidable single-use plastic; notes that the activists are the latest in a line of more than 400 plastic-free local communities across the country; and calls on the Government to bring forward comprehensive proposals to support the creation of plastic-free communities across the country.
