Summary
That this House is concerned to learn that the Deputy Managing Director of Connex, Oliver Brousse, misled people at a presentation of the company's Vision for the South Central Rail Franchise, which it hopes to renew in 2003; notes that he told the meeting that work was well on the way to completion at Sutton Station; regrets that since hoardings were erected in November 1999 and facilities withdrawn no work has occurred and that as a result the project is four months behind schedule and falling further behind; calls on Connex to be more candid about the reasons for delay and for senior management urgently to take the project in hand; and calls on the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions to instruct the Strategic Rail Authority to investigate the causes of delay at Sutton Station and to work with Connex and Railtrack to expedite the removal of any outstanding obstacles to commencing and rapidly completing this project.
