Summary

That this House believes that elderly and low-income tenants paying registered fair rents should be protected from high rent increases; is concerned that the recent judgment in the Court of Appeal in the judicial review brought by Spath Holme Ltd leaves these tenants vulnerable to unaffordable rent increases and may lead to significant hardship and even homelessness; and urges the Government to take urgent action to reverse the effect of the judgment and restore the limits on registered fair rent increases set in the Rent Acts (Maximum Fair Rent) Order 1999.
