Summary

That this House reaffirms its support for the Alcohol Charter, published by the Drugs, Alcohol and Justice Cross-Party Parliamentary Group and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Alcohol Harm; notes that, in addition to approval from health professionals, the Charter is now supported by Napo and the POA, unions representing probation and prison officers; recognises that alcohol is a major factor in incidents of violence and criminal activity; further notes that there were 7,551 alcohol-specific deaths registered in the UK in 2018, three-quarters of which were due to alcoholic liver disease; and calls on the Government to take immediate steps to introduce and implement an alcohol strategy based on the Charter's recommendations to reduce alcohol harm.
