Summary
That this House notes escalating concerns in the county of Cumbria over proposals by Stagecoach to reduce their route network; notes the large volume of mail being received by honourable Members on this matter; believes that the reduction as originally proposed would have caused considerable inconvenience to the travelling public at a time when the Government is promoting the use of public transport with a series of initiatives; welcomes the personal intervention of Mr Brian Souter, Stagecoach's Managing Director, in seeking a resolution to the problem in the county; believes that Stagecoach, the county council and all the organisations concerned in the planning, provision and funding of public transport should work in a spirit of co-operation in overcoming any difficulties that exist; calls on Stagecoach to provide the level of service that Cumbrians expect from the county's premier public transport service provider; and congratulates the News and Star on yet another campaign furthering the interests of its readership.
