Summary
That this House is concerned by the dreadful situation currently faced by 9.9 million children in Yemen, a war-torn country with the highest number of people in humanitarian need in the world; notes with concern that since March 2015 over 5,700 civilians have been killed, including more than 630 children, following the intensive and daily airstrikes by Saudi Arabia-led coalition forces and ground attacks by the Houthis and other non-state armed groups; further notes that due to the destruction or the damage caused to health and other public facilities thousands of children are also put at risk of dying from treatable diseases and acute malnutrition, and can no longer access their schools; condemns the remaining significant obstacles to the flow of essential goods, including fuel, food and medical supplies into Yemen and to their distribution within the country because of the insecure environment, and the restriction of humanitarian access to some areas which contributes to further reinforcing the dire humanitarian situation; joins the UN and the ICRC in the condemnation of disregard for human life and in calling for attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructures to stop; and calls on the Government to pursue and increase its efforts in encouraging the launch of a peace talk process in the country.
