Summary
We call for the abolition of leasehold ownership in the UK. England and Wales are some of the few countries who adhere to this system of property ownership. We believe abolishing leasehold ownership would liberate leaseholders from this type of ownership which we view as outdated. We are concerned that leaseholders are left exposed to service charge hikes, ground rents hikes, refusals by some freeholders to extend their leases etc. Many feel they are trapped in flats they cannot sell because of the conditions that come with leasehold ownership.
