Summary
We want the Government to commission independent bodies to regularly advise how joining the Customs Union could benefit Britain's economy. We want Parliament to regularly consider how that would advance Government's strategic goal of stimulating UK economic growth. The OBR forecast that the 2021 ‘Trade and Cooperation Agreement’ will reduce long run productivity by around 4% compared to staying in the EU. It also predicts that imports & exports will be 15% lower. We think that new trade, beyond the European area has proved elusive and trivial at best. We believe that in an increasingly perilous geopolitical situation, Britain should strengthen and deepen its allegiances with like minded nations. We feel that we can then oppose threats and demands of dictators and demagogues, together.
